The 2022 BET Awards may have come and gone. It, however, etched indelible memories in the minds of some. Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems is one of such persons.
Since her breakout into the international scene all thanks to her feature in Afrobeats superstar, Wizkid’s ‘Essence’, Tems has become the darling of global superstars.
On Sunday night, she added two new silverware to her cabinet, courtesy of the 2022 BET Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, United States.
Tems won Best International Act — beating fellow Nigerian Fireboy, Dave from the UK, Dinos from France, Fally Ipupa from Congo, Little Simz from the UK, Ludmilla from Brazil, Major League Djz from South Africa, and Tayc from France.
The talented singer is said to the first female Nigerian Afrobeats act to earn the prestigious award.
Earlier at the event, she won Best Collaboration with Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ featuring Justin Bieber.
The chart-topping song won the category ahead of ‘Every Change I Get’ by DJ Khaled ft Lil baby and Lil Durk; ‘Family Ties’ by Baby Seem ft Kenderick Lamar; ‘Whole Lotta’ by Bia ft Nicki Minaj; ‘Way 2 Sexy’, Drake ft Future and Young Thug, and ‘Kiss me More’ by Doja Cat ft SZA.
