Nigerian singer, Olawale Olofooro, professionally known as Brymo has become a subject of discussion on Twitter after he openly dismissed the idea of Igbo Presidency in the forthcoming polls.
In a tweet on Wednesday evening, the singer, who is supporting All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, said that as long as there is talk about Biafra in the South East, the desire for an Igbo president will remain a pipe dream.
“Well.. no other tribe seems to have a new country yet… as long as there talks by prominent people from Igboland about Biafra an Igbo presidency will be a pipe dream,” he wrote in the now-controversial tweet.
Reacting, tweeps who appeared to be displeased by the take descended on Brymo, with many accusing the singer of bigotry.
@HeisBriggs said, “Brymo is a fake musician. He doesn’t practice what he preaches with his songs. He pretends to be woke and sings about slavery but he’s the slave himself. He writes like an intelligent man but speaks like a layman. He is just fake, y’all ignore him.”
For @Nkemchor_,“He has been in the music industry for over 10 yrs but Asake of yesterday has made more mark than him in Nigerian Music. The reason is not far-fetched. With a warped reasoning like this brymo really can’t go far. This Election season has really exposed the bigotry of many Nigerians.”
@Ugwox1 stated, “All top Igbo and south west artist should be calling out brymo, I’ve definitely canceled him for long I held onto him as my goat but this display of tribalism is 🚩🚩🚩for me.”
@VictorIsrael_ also mentioned that “Nobody cares about Brymo’s political choices. It’s his fundamental human right. But if he has to denigrate the Igbos to market his candidate then that’s unacceptable. Peter Obi is a force that reckons with every tribe and neither Brymo nor his unblown music career can stop it.”
@Makavelli275 submitted, “Brymo guy will live to regret his utterances (especially those against the Igbos, who have done diametrically nothing wrong to him) on Twitter. I’m not sure how much money Tinubu paid him, but I do know that, after 25th of Feb., 2023, whatever the outcome of the election.”
