Silverbird boss and former senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray‑Bruce has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement posted on his X handle on October 15, 2025, he affirmed that his decision was not born of political opportunism, but from conviction in the direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Murray‑Bruce, who represented Bayelsa East in the 8th Senate, praised Tinubu as a leader who understands finance, and described the current reforms especially in the economy as bold and necessary.
He insisted that Nigeria is evolving toward a “free‑market economy that rewards hard work,” and said he would stand with that vision.
In his remarks, he recalled knowing Tinubu since 1998, and said he trusts his courage, conviction, and capacity to deliver meaningful change.
“I join not for politics but for progress,” he declared.
Political observers say his defection is part of a wave of realignments benefitting the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although Murray‑Bruce did not immediately announce any committee role in APC, his move is widely seen as a symbolic endorsement of Tinubu’s agenda and a notable shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.
