The wave of deaths among female local government officials in Lagos State has deepened with the passing of Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, Council Manager of Coker/Aguda Local Council Development Area, making her the fifth female council officer to die within two months.
Mrs. Akinola, who also served as Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos, died on Monday, 29 September 2025, after what colleagues described as a brief illness. Her death was announced by the Forum, which described her as a dedicated administrator who led her peers until her final moments.
She will be laid to rest on Tuesday, 30 September, with funeral prayers at Al Kitab Mosque, Eleshin, after the Zuhr prayer, and interment at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara.
Her death adds to a troubling pattern that has unsettled the local government system in Lagos. Since the inauguration of the present council administration on 27 July 2025, four other female officials have died in quick succession, Oluwakemi Rufai, councillor in Ibeju-Lekki, died on 13th of August; Zainab Shotayo, councillor in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye, died on 18th of August; Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, died on 20th of September; and Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan, councillor in Somolu, died the following day, 21th of September.
