Shock as DSS Discovers Stockpile of Arms in Ex-Lagos Speaker Obasa’s Office

In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing political turmoil within the Lagos State House of Assembly, the Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly uncovered a significant cache of arms in the office of the impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

This discovery, made on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, comes on the heels of heightened security measures at the Assembly complex.

Sources within the Assembly revealed that during a routine security sweep, operatives assigned to the complex found approximately 47 new pump-action shotguns and live cartridges concealed within the Speaker’s office premises. The DSS was immediately notified, leading to the confiscation of the weapons and the initiation of a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

This revelation has intensified the controversy surrounding Obasa, who was impeached on January 13, 2025, over allegations of gross misconduct and financial impropriety. Notably, during his impeachment, Obasa claimed that over 200 police officers invaded his residences in Agege and Ikeja, detaining his family members. He described the allegations against him as “fictitious and unsubstantiated” and insisted that any removal process must adhere strictly to legal procedures.

The discovery of the arms cache has raised serious concerns about the former Speaker’s activities, with some Assembly members suggesting possible involvement in arms dealing. One insider remarked, “It’s now evident why he was desperate to return to the Assembly. There might have been a need for him to address this issue, and his prolonged absence made that impossible.”

As the DSS continues its investigation, the Lagos State House of Assembly remains under tight security. The new leadership, under Speaker Mojisola Meranda, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the findings. The situation underscores the deepening crisis within the state’s legislative arm and raises pressing questions about security and governance in Lagos State.
