In the late hour of Tuesday, 18th March, 2025, President Bola Tinubu’s declaration a state of emergency Rivers State, thereby brought in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd) into the spotlight.
As the newly appointed sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibas is tasked with overseeing the state’s affairs for the next six months.

1. Distinguished Naval Career
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas is a retired Nigerian naval officer with over four decades of service. He served as the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) of the Nigerian Navy from July 13, 2015, to January 29, 2021. His tenure as CNS was marked by significant reforms and reorganization of the Nigerian Navy.
2. Educational Background
Ibas holds a degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan. He also attended the Nigerian Defence Academy, where he commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant on January 1, 1983. His educational background has equipped him with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate complex security and administrative challenges.
3. Leadership Experience
Throughout his service, Ibas held various key positions within the Nigerian Navy, including executive officer of NNS Siri, NNS Ekun, and NNS Ambe, and commanding officer of the Nigerian Navy Underwater Warfare School. His leadership experience has prepared him to handle the complexities of administering a state like Rivers.
