Nigerian musicians Seun Kuti and Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of the defunct P-Square duo, have publicly ended their long-running feud, bringing a close to a dispute that began during the heated 2023 general elections.
The disagreement originally flared after Seun Kuti criticised Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, calling him an “opportunist” who could not “save Nigeria.” Peter Okoye, who openly supported Obi, reacted strongly on social media, questioning Kuti’s relevance and achievements as an artist. The exchange quickly spiralled into a bitter online clash that lasted years and divided some fans.
Recent developments, however, show the two artists have decided to put their differences aside. A now-viral video of their reunion captured them embracing and smiling together at a nightclub in Lagos, signalling a fresh start.
In the clip, Kuti is heard telling Okoye, “We are artistes, we can’t be fighting over politicians,” a sentiment Okoye appeared to agree with before shaking his hand.
The reconciliation has been widely shared on social media and reported by several Nigerian news outlets, with many fans applauding the move as a sign of maturity and unity within the entertainment industry.
While both men come from different musical backgrounds, Kuti with his Afrobeat activism and Okoye from mainstream pop, their peaceful resolution is seen as a reminder that artistry and friendship can transcend political differences.
The public moment of reconciliation not only ends one of Nigeria’s most talked-about celebrity feuds but also highlights the role of dialogue over division in the nation’s cultural landscape.
