By Son of Afrobeat Legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Seun Kuti in partnership with Vortex, a Lagos-based animation company have debuted a comic series targeted at bad governance.
Themed Anikulapo, the comic series depicts the Afrobeat artist and activist as the Voice of The Orisha that tells an adventurous tale loosely based on the musician’s lifestyle.
The series is a fusion of revolutionary spirit of Afrobeat rythm juxtaposed with glossy animation of Anikulapo.
Vortex revealed in a press statement that the “R” rated comic book focuses on the story of Anikulapo III, a role to be depicted by Seun Kuti to act as a spirit summoner who can call on The Orisha in the open through his music to combat corrupt governance, social vices and battle an arch enemy, a Baba General.
Born in a family of Summoners, Anikulapo wields many instruments but majorly carries the Sax. He has once been rumoured to have rained down fire in Obalende area of Lagos, destroying half of the district when he called upon Sango in a fierce battle against the Eyo Assassins. Anikulapo is practical, direct and strong willed. His ancestors have fought for centuries.
