The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, on Thursday distributed over 1200 free Urea fertilizers to farmers across the senatorial district. This initiative is part of his ongoing efforts to support local farmers and improve food security in Lagos East.
In his remarks, the Senator, represented by his Media Aide, Mr. Enitan Olukotun, explained that the fertilizer distribution complements President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda on food security. He emphasized that the government is committed to fighting hunger and ensuring food sustainability.
Senator Abiru has consistently supported agricultural initiatives in the district. Prior to this event, he facilitated the distribution of farming inputs such as fertilizers, seedlings, and herbicides to over 300 crop farmers. He has also provided fully vaccinated chickens, feeds, and cages for over 100 livestock poultry farmers.
Dr. Hakeem Adetugbobo, the Coordinator of Agric-related empowerment for Senator Abiru, praised the Senator for his dedication to uplifting farmers in the district. He noted that farming in Lagos East is transitioning from subsistence to mechanized farming, thanks to the Senator’s initiatives.
Dr. Adetugbobo also highlighted the establishment of farmers’ cooperatives in the district, which will provide easier access to funds for their business operations.
Several beneficiaries, including Alhaja Onifade Muslimot from Igbogbo Bayeku LCDA, expressed their gratitude to Senator Abiru, noting that his support has made it easier for farmers to be proud of their profession. Other beneficiaries, Mrs. Blessing Nwaezawa and Mr. Dauda Taiwo, stated that the fertilizers would significantly improve their farm yields.
The event was attended by prominent community leaders and agriculture stakeholders, including leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Arc. Taiwo Kara, Deaconess Wonu Osinowo, APC Lagos East Women Leader Alhaji Jimoh Tijani, Hon. Princess Adebimpe Akinsola, Dr. Hakeem Adetugbobo, Alhaji Shehu Usman Sampam, Alhaji Rilwan Ishola Jinadu, Alhaji Sulaimon Musiliu, Bishop Olajide Odusoga, and Otunba (Dr.) Femi Oke, represented by Mrs. Adeola Adewunmi-Malik, among others.
