Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, on Sunday led an inspection of the nearly completed SAIL Innovation Lab and Sports Centre in Orimedu, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State. Accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Feyisola Abiru, and other dignitaries, the Senator assessed the progress of the state-of-the-art facility, which is designed to promote youth empowerment and innovation.
The facility, situated on a prime 8,600-square-meter site near the Lekki Free Trade Zone, includes a standard football pitch measuring 90×45 feet, an indoor table tennis court with changing rooms, and a catering area. The Innovation Lab is equipped to train 200 individuals at a time, offering co-working spaces and operational offices across two floors.
Among those present for the inspection were Mr. Wahid Enitan Oshodi, President of the African Table Tennis Federation; Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government; Hon. Bayo Balogun, member of the House of Representatives (Ibeju-Lekki Federal Constituency); and Chief Bode Oyedele, a prominent leader in Ibeju-Lekki.
During a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba Toheeb Abidemi Yissa Oyedele, the Onimedu of Orimedu Land, Senator Abiru commended the community for their cooperation and support for the project. He described the facility as a symbol of progress and opportunity for the district’s youth.
“The world today is driven by innovation and technology. Therefore, we must position our young ones for the enormous opportunities that this era of innovation and tech revolution provides,” Senator Abiru remarked. He added that the project mirrors a similar initiative in Ikorodu, aimed at fostering skill acquisition, innovation, and sports development.
Oba Oyedele praised the Senator’s commitment to equitable development, stating, “The people of Orimedu, and by extension other communities in Lagos East, are proud to have Senator Abiru as their representative in the Senate.”
The SAIL Innovation Lab and Sports Centre underscores Senator Abiru’s dedication to youth empowerment and sustainable development across Lagos East Senatorial District. Upon completion, the facility is expected to become a hub for innovation and sports, transforming opportunities for local youth.
