Senator Tokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic and governance reforms, describing them as bold steps that have repositioned Nigeria on the path of recovery and renewal.
Speaking at the Lagos State APC Stakeholders’ Forum 2025 on Tuesday, Abiru said President Tinubu’s leadership had brought stability and discipline to the nation’s economy despite the tough decisions made in the early months of his administration.
He noted that the removal of fuel subsidy, the unification of the foreign exchange market, and the redirection of national resources into productive sectors were signs of “courageous and visionary governance.”
“Two years ago, Nigerians entrusted President Tinubu with leadership at one of the most challenging periods in our history. He could have chosen the easy path, but instead, he chose the path of reform, restructuring, and renewal,” Abiru said.
The lawmaker, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, highlighted major government interventions, including NELFUND loans for over 510,000 students, N30 billion CrediCorp loans for 150,000 Nigerians, the new N70,000 minimum wage, and Project Bridge, a 90,000km fibre optic backbone driving digital connectivity across the country.
Abiru attributed the success of these reforms to the strong collaboration between the National Assembly and the Executive, which, he said, had passed several transformative laws such as the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025, Student Loan Act, Data Protection Act, and Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (Amendment) Bill, among others.
“These legislative actions form the legal foundation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring the sustainability of reforms and economic inclusion for generations to come,” he added.
Recounting President Tinubu’s record as Lagos State governor, Abiru said the state’s fiscal and governance models now being replicated at the national level were proof of his visionary approach to leadership.
While reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and Lagos’ legacy of progressive politics, Abiru said the people of Lagos East and the party’s leadership stood firmly behind President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“On behalf of the good people of Lagos East Senatorial District and in alignment with the will of our great party, I proudly and unequivocally endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027,” Abiru declared.
He urged Nigerians to remain patient and united, expressing optimism that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda would yield long-term prosperity.
“This is a legacy of visionary leadership, courageous reform, and national unity, one that will secure a better Nigeria for future generations,” he concluded.
