The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Tokunbo Abiru, on Monday inspected the 34-kilometre Ikorodu–Itokin Road and the Imota Mini Stadium to assess the progress of ongoing infrastructural projects he facilitated in the district.
The Ikorodu–Itokin Road, regarded as one of the most strategic transport corridors in Lagos State, connects Ikorodu to Epe, Ijebu-Ode, Ibeju-Lekki, and several adjoining communities, serving as a major artery for trade, mobility, and inter-community development.
During the inspection, Senator Abiru engaged directly with engineers and site supervisors, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to quality standards and timely completion of the projects.
He described the road as “a lifeline for thousands of people and businesses in the Lagos East corridor,” noting that its completion would ease traffic congestion, boost economic activities, and enhance livelihoods.
“This project is critical to the economic and social well-being of our people. It connects major towns and serves as a vital link to Epe, Ijebu Ode, and the Lekki-Epe Industrial Corridor. I came here on a routine inspection and to encourage the contractor to complete the project within schedule,” Abiru stated.
At the Imota Mini Stadium, where construction is also progressing steadily, the Senator reiterated his commitment to youth empowerment through sports, saying the facility would promote community engagement and talent development.
“Sports play a major role in empowering our young people. Projects like the Imota Mini Stadium are part of our vision to create platforms that nurture their potential and strengthen social cohesion,” he said.
Residents who witnessed the inspection expressed appreciation for the Senator’s proactive engagement and visible impact across the district.
Mrs. Abiodun Oluwadara, a resident of Agbowa, lauded Abiru’s dedication, saying, “We have not seen a Senator so consistent in following up on projects. The Ikorodu–Itokin Road had been a nightmare for years, but today we are seeing real change.”
The reconstruction aligns with the broader infrastructure renewal drive under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, supported by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi.
Senator Abiru, who was accompanied by his team led by his Special Adviser on Constituency Matters, Dr. Saheed Oladapo Ibikunle, has facilitated numerous constituency projects including roads, hospitals, classrooms, and empowerment programmes reflecting his vision for inclusive and people-centered governance across Lagos East.
