In a heartwarming show of solidarity and cultural appreciation, staff and players of Fulham Football Club on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, celebrated Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day at their training ground, Motspur Park.

Draped in green and white, the colours of Nigeria’s national flag, the Premier League side marked the occasion with players of Nigerian descent and other teammates joining in the celebration.

The club shared moments from the event on social media, showing Nigerian players like Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze and other staff vibing to music, showcasing the unity and diversity that defines modern football.

The gesture was particularly significant for Nigerian players within the squad and the large Nigerian fanbase that supports Fulham both in the UK and abroad.

It also reflects the increasing recognition of African heritage in European football circles.

Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and the day is annually marked with tributes, parades, and celebrations by Nigerians worldwide.

Fulham’s acknowledgment adds to the global spirit of the day and further strengthens the cultural bond between Nigeria and the footballing world.
