Scandal! INEC Staff Decries Disparity In 2016 Arrears As Some States Received Higher Than Others

There seems to be a financial misappropriation currently going on at the apex electoral body in the country, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as staff at same level received different amounts when their salary arrears were paid.

A source in the know disclosed to BlackBox Nigeria in an exclusive chat that the staff, which were appointed at same time nationwide recently sat for a promotional examination, and thereafter all got promoted to the same level and step which grade level 8.5 to 9.2.

According to the source, relief came to the expectant INEC staff when their promotional letters were issued and were backdated to 2016 (13months) and were informed that they will be paid the difference between their old salary and new salary. Their jubilation was, however, cut short when the arrears were paid to all the staff but some States received higher than others.

The source disclosed that when the expected arrears were calculated, each staff was expecting an alert between the range of N100,000 to N120,000 but when it was paid, staff in some States received as low as N40,000 while others in another received N99,000. The real reason for the discrepancy was not disclosed to any of the affected staff in all the States.

In the affected states, efforts to speak with the management of INEC was met with silence. Aside from the arrears, BlackBox Nigeria gathered that payment of allowances in Lagos State always come with reservations. While INEC national body pays N13,000 to ad-hoc staff engaged for by-elections, INEC Lagos gave NYSC Corp members N9,000 in the just concluded Eti-Osa by-election while N13, 000 was however paid for similar duty when Ifako-Jaiye Constituency also in Lagos did its own by-election.
