Social-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has demanded the resignation of the embattled Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara to save the image of the National Assembly.
In an interview with an online platform, Adetokunbo Mumuni, the Executive Director of SERAP said: “If we got their story correctly, it means after they had agreed at the plenary on the 2016 budget, if the speaker and some groups, thereafter decided to make insertions into the budget, that is definitely criminal”.
When asked whether the speaker should have resigned in a situation like this, he said yes stating that, “the mere mention of the name of the Prime Minister of Iceland in Panama papers allegation, he resigned the following day.
“It is not the business of the President. It is the business of the anti-corruption agencies to come and begin a probe. They don’t need an order from the President”.
