Sanwo-Olu renames Ikorodu Youth Centre after legendary athlete Modupe Oshikoya

Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the renaming of the newly commissioned Ikorodu Youth Centre located in the Ita-Elewa area of Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Centre will now be known as Modupe Oshikoya Youth Centre, after a former Nigerian female track and field athlete.

During her career, Oshikoya competed in the women’s sprint and long jump events. The one-time Olympian also competed in the heptathlon, and won a total number of five gold medals at the All-Africa Games.

Recall that Sanwo-Olu, during a working visit to Ikorodu on Thursday, commissioned the Ikorodu Youth Centre which houses a mini-stadium. The project was facilitated by member, House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Benson through the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the President, Princess, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.

The commissioned sporting facility is a 5–Aside synthetic turf football pitch with a concrete spectator stand, basketball and lawn tennis courts. The reconstructed stadium also has an indoor games hall, gym hall, players changing room and a sickbay.
