Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the arrival of three new train sets comprising 12 coaches for the Lagos Blue Line Rail as part of his ongoing major development in the state to transform urban transportation.

The new coaches, which are expected to significantly reduce waiting times and enhance commuter comfort, mark a critical step in the phased implementation of the Blue Line project that has been a key component of the state’s strategic rail infrastructure plan.

Sharing the update on Thursday on his Facebook page, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the long-term vision behind the rail system and the government’s commitment to easing the daily commute for Lagosians.

“This means shorter wait times and more comfortable trips for everyone using the Blue Line. It’s a step forward in our efforts to make daily commute in Lagos less stressful and more reliable,” the governor said.

He also disclosed that construction is progressing on the next phase of the Blue Line, which will extend the route from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, with a target completion date of 2026.

“I know it’s been a long time coming, but I truly believe we’re building something that will change how we move around this city for the better,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

The Lagos Blue Line, which was inaugurated in phases, runs from Marina to Mile 2 and is designed to ease traffic congestion in Africa’s most populous city.

Lagosians have welcomed the news, with many expressing hope that the improved rail service will provide a viable and sustainable alternative to the city’s road traffic woes.
