Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commissioned the Paediatric Sickle Cell Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Friday, providing a dedicated facility for children with sickle cell disease.
The Governor spoke at the commissioning and handing over ceremony in Lagos, highlighting the centre’s transformative impact on the state’s healthcare landscape. He acknowledged the role of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in facilitating the project.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visionary leadership in the health sector, recognizing his approval of this project and others like it across the country. He emphasized the centre’s contribution to increased infrastructure for children’s healthcare in the state.
The Governor noted that the centre would nurture an environment where children can receive care, adding to the number of healthcare facilities in the state. He also highlighted the potential for improved infant and maternal mortality rates.
Governor Sanwo-Olu called for collaboration among the three tiers of government, emphasizing the potential for greater achievements through synergy. He commended the teamwork among LASUTH officials and encouraged the judicious use of the sickle cell centre to save lives and benefit humanity.
