Two months after his expulsion from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin, who was dismissed from the NNPP for alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of dues, ended weeks of speculation on Monday when he announced his defection via his verified social media pages.

The former NNPP campaign director has long maintained close political ties with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a factor that had fueled rumours of his imminent return to the APC.

He revealed that the decision was taken unanimously by his political structure, who not only left the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement with him but also pledged to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano. The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office,” Jibrin said.

The fourth-term lawmaker added that about 2,000 Islamic clerics offered special prayers for the President, as well as for peace and development in Kiru/Bebeji, Kano State, and Nigeria.

Addressing his supporters during the rally, Jibrin said he wanted to avoid the “mistake” of defecting without his loyal base.

“I decided to bring this crowd to correct my earlier mistake. I don’t want anyone to say I don’t have supporters,” he stated in a video shared from the event.

Jibrin’s return to the APC is expected to further reshape the political landscape in Kano as parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
