Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that his country will write off a staggering $23 billion debt burden for various African countries.
This announcement was made during the plenary session held from July 27 to July 28.
As part of its commitment to bolstering ties with Africa, Moscow has pledged an additional $90 million to support various development initiatives on the continent.
President Putin emphasized Russia’s advocacy for an increased representation of African nations in global platforms such as the United Nations Security Council and other international structures.
He stressed the need to enhance cooperation and foster an honest, open, and constructive partnership between Russia and Africa.
As part of the diplomatic efforts, Russia is offering assistance in the establishment of new African embassies and consulates within its borders.
Furthermore, the Russian government has extended its support to African nations in countering pressing threats like terrorism, piracy, and transnational crimes.
Putin assured that Russia would continue to provide training to personnel from Africa to tackle these challenges effectively.
President Putin said:
“Russia and Africa strive to develop cooperation in all areas and strengthen ‘honest, open, constructive’ partnership.
“Russia will also assist in opening new African embassies and consulates in Russia.”
“Russia is ready to provide trade preferences to Africa, support the creation of modern production sectors, agricultural sector, and provide assistance through relevant international structures and agencies.
“Russia will always be a responsible international supplier of agricultural products,” he added.
