One Abolade Oladimeji, 43, Ademola Ayo, 45, Emmanuel Fabiyi, 65, Ademola Hakeem, 49 and Sunday Ayodele, 52, suspected to be real estate scammers have been arrested in Lekki, Lagos.

The suspects were arrested while fraudulently leasing out someone else’s duplex in Lekki Phase 2 for the sum of N4.5 million.

The gang leader, Ademola Hakeem, stated that he post sales and lease of various non-existing landed property, apartments and buildings with a luring attractive price on Jiji.com

Their last victim, Obi, was trying to dot the I’s and cross the T’s of the lease, when he perceived something was sketchy, he then did some research and his findings led him to the original owner of the property.

Obi and the original landlord played along with the fraudsters while a police team was briefed on the development. The RSS decoy team ambushed the fraudsters and arrested them at the point of sealing the deal.

One of the suspects, Fabiyi, said “My age has been so instrumental in the various scams we have pulled off. Unsuspecting victims get convinced that a man of my age would not be a scammer.

“This makes them want to do business with us and part with their hard earned money. I am ashamed as an elder in church and a grandpa. My children warned me to desist from fraud after I was arrested last year but I did not adhere”.
