Following the unnecessary drama that unveiled itself in the camp of Team Nigeria on the wake of arrival in Brazil for the Rio Olympics, Federal Government led by President Muammadu Buhari have once again come under fire for the irregularities. But, with all that, here is an amazing story of a young lady who pushed aside her school programs and registered for the Olympics for Team Nigeria.
23-year-old Chierika Ukogu is an American born Nigerian who is a student of Stanford University and is currently representing Nigeria at the Rio Olympics in a sports called Rowing.
This young woman practically sponsored herself to the games. She had to put her school program on hold and found a way to train with the United States Olympic team and qualified for the games without any form of support from home country, Nigeria
Since no one cared about her, she used the GO FUND ME app to raise funds to enable her participate in this games.
High point of her story is that she has just qualified for the quarter finals in the Rowing competition. This young lady was never deterred by the neglect of her country’s organizing committee who failed to carry along all its athletes for preparations of the Olympic games.
The Rowing Women’s Single Skulls Quarterfinals 3 has been scheduled for 13:30 today where Ukogu will be competing with five others.
Below are the details of the contestants
Lane One – Rouba Amina (Algeria)
Lane Two- Ukogu Chierika (Nigeria)
Lane Three: Thornycroft Micheen Barbara (Zimbabwe)
Lane Four- Zeeman Carling (Canada)
Lane Five – Erichsen Fie Udby (Denmark)

The much anticipated race will be coming up at the Lagoa Stadium in Rio.
