Concerned about the need to carry out emergency palliative works on critical sections of Ikorodu – Sagamu highway ahead of the peak of rainy season, a road user, Adeyemi Oshodi, has sent a passionate appeal to the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola.
Oshodi, in an open letter dated 24th May, 2021, said the award of contract for the Ikorodu-Sagamu Highway by the Ministry of Works about two years ago was a welcome development received with immense joy by Nigerians who daily ply the road.
He said the work had progressed steadily until COVID-19 forced its suspension.
“Unfortunately, the work has remained suspended. As we approach the peak of this year’s rainy season in the next couple of weeks this passionate appeal becomes inevitable,” Oshodi said.
The concerned road user said notwithstanding the subsisting contract with Messrs. Arab Contractors, it was the belief of Nigerians (particularly those who ply the road) that the Honourable Minister can direct Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) or seek the assistance of the Governors of Lagos and Ogun to carry out emergency palliative works.
The sections that are in extreme condition of disrepair as highlighted in the letter include — sections in front of FERMA and VIO offices also in front of Oriwu Club, the valley between Sawmill and Lagos Polytechnic, Ita-Oluwo junction, section through Ogijo town, and Ita Sanni.
