The Rivers State House of Assembly has given Governor Siminalayi Fubara a 48-hour ultimatum to present the 2025 budget.
This directive, issued during Monday’s plenary session, comes after the Supreme Court ruling that ordered the governor to present the budget to the Assembly on Friday.
On January 2nd, Governor Fubara signed the ₦1.1 trillion 2025 Budget into law after presenting it to lawmakers led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.
However, months later, the Supreme Court ruled that Martin Amaewhule and his group were legitimate members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, ending the leadership crisis that had split the house.
By demanding that the governor present the budget, the Assembly is asserting its constitutional role in overseeing the state’s finances and ensuring that the government is accountable to the people.
Recalled that Fubara and Wike, the FCT minister had been at loggerhead over supremacy of governance in River State for months.
However, this directive together with court decision seemed to recognize the 27 constitutionally elected lawmakers of the house against Fubara’s lawmaker.
