Re – Rise Up And Defend Democracy – Governor Fayemi Tells Nigerians
  • A Tale By Moonlight

I read with concern, Governor John Kayode Fayemi’s call for the defense of democracy. The call was made when the governor of Ekiti State and the head, Nigerian Governors Forum visited the Canadian ambassador to Nigeria.

I became agitated and I will like to ask his Excellency several questions;

The first question that comes to mind is it this democracy where winner takes all? Is it this democracy of imposition? Is it this democracy of voters apathy? Is it this present African democracy of government of godfathers, for the godfathers and by the godfathers; (I stand to be challenged).

A quick flashback to Dr Kayode Fayemi, how did you lose election under Johnathan? What also happened between you and Peter Fayose under Buhari? The truth is, incumbency has a role to play on who wins election in Nigeria and Africa at large.

Abraham Lincoln himself was of the firm opinion that democracy meant equal rights, equal opportunities, freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom to self determination, freedom in all forms of freedom. Do we have those things in place here?

Sir, if we are defending democracy, what is the democracy we are defending? I am still not clear or maybe we should pray for our leaders.

We already know APC will win in 2023 from the exodus of defection rocking political parties in Nigeria at the moment.

Can we therefore say APC is doing what Nigerians want or APC is delivering the ideals of democracy to Nigerians? The answer is capital NO.

I am not condemning democracy but it’s not working in Africa. Africa has domesticated democracy in her own understanding; Governor Kayode Fayemi can bear me witness.

I am now beginning to see why the greek philosopher and the founder of the Pythagorean brotherhood; Sir Pythagoras vehemently opposed democracy.

Although, we condemn anarchy and statelessness, but Africans must look for other ways of choosing their leaders.
