Residents Demand Immediate Rehabilitation Of Ikorodu-Sagamu Road
Concerned citizens of Ikorodu under the aegis of Ikorodu Ambassadors have called on the Federal Government to fix the pivotal and economically viable Ikorodu-Sagamu Road.
According to the group, the road that has been left in a terrible state of disrepair connects over 300 communities and 45 industries amongst which include PZ Cussons at the Lagos end of the road, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC)’s Mosinmi depot, and Lafarge’s Cement factory.
“The first industrial estate in West Africa is situated on this abandoned road,” a commuter on the road told BlackBox Nigeria.
Even though the damaged Ikorodu-Sagamu road had been budgeted for in the current 2017 budget, the group is calling the former Governor of Lagos State and Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN to prioritise the mobilisation of contractors to the site considering the economic importance of the road.
A reliable source disclosed to BBN that a total of N1.2bn has been earmarked for the rehabilitation of the road, a gesture the group said might not be unconnected with the efforts of the Federal lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon Babajimi Benson.
The Ikorodu Ambassadors group called on well meaning Nigerians to prevail on the Federal Government to consider swift action on the road as they will not stop agitating until the road is fixed.
