Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has dismissed viral social media claims alleging the death of former governor Chief Willie Obiano.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo described the reports claiming Obiano died in a London hospital as “malicious and utterly false.”
The governor said he had personally spoken with Obiano and confirmed that the former governor was alive and in good health.
“I view with grave concern the reckless circulation of such malicious rumours. It is both wicked and completely irresponsible,” Soludo said.
He urged media practitioners, particularly online platforms, to verify information through official channels before publication, noting that spreading unconfirmed death rumours undermines public trust.
Soludo asked the public to disregard the trending report, assuring that Obiano “remains hale and hearty,” and extended his wishes for the former governor’s continued health and peace.
His clarification aligns with an earlier statement by C-Don Adinuba, former Anambra Commissioner for Information under Obiano, who also debunked the rumour.
Adinuba confirmed that Obiano is “strong, hale, and hearty” in Houston, United States, where he currently resides.
“Contrary to the reports, Obiano is not in London and has not been hospitalised. Ignore the rumour, it is fake,” Adinuba said.
Obiano served as Anambra State governor from 2014 to 2022 before handing over to Soludo in March 2022.
