Rep. Babajimi Benson, representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, in a heartfelt message, celebrate the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) for their unwavering dedication to shaping the future of Nigeria through education.
In a statement, Benson highlighted the invaluable contributions of teachers, aligning his message with the global theme of this year’s celebration, “Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.”
“Wherever you find something extraordinary, you will find the fingerprints of a great teacher,” Benson remarked, quoting former U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan. He emphasized the crucial role teachers play in shaping young minds, expressing deep gratitude for their commitment, resilience, and passion. Benson noted that the theme of this year’s celebration perfectly aligns with his ongoing efforts to improve educational opportunities within his constituency.
As part of his oversight functions, Benson has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at transforming the educational landscape in Ikorodu. These include the construction of over 20 new school buildings, the provision of thousands of furniture and school supplies, the distribution of 2,000 solar reading lamps, and the establishment of four state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centers.
Benson also underscored his advocacy for teachers’ welfare, recognizing the immense sacrifice and dedication that defines their profession. “I have championed motions to improve and support teachers’ welfare schemes, garnering attention to the importance of valuing educators’ voices,” he stated, calling for continued recognition of the essential work that teachers do in molding future leaders.
One of the most groundbreaking developments announced by Benson is the proposed IBILE Entrepreneur University in Ikorodu, Lagos State. Sponsored in collaboration with Hon. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul (Ph.D), the institution is designed to foster entrepreneurial education and innovation among youths. “This university will empower young people to become leaders and change-makers, equipping them with the tools they need to drive business and social innovation,” Benson explained, positioning the university as a game-changer for education in the state.
As he concluded his message, Benson paid tribute to the often-unsung labor of teachers, acknowledging their profound impact on shaping future generations. “Their labor of love is the backbone of our society,” he said. “To all teachers, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. May your dedication never go unrewarded, and may your influence continue to inspire and transform lives.”
Rep. Benson’s message on World Teachers’ Day highlights not only his commitment to improving education in his constituency but also his deep respect for the teaching profession and his vision for a more equitable and inclusive future for Nigerian students. Happy Teachers’ Day was his heartfelt closing remark, reinforcing his support for those at the forefront of building the nation’s future.
