Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has released what he claims is concrete email evidence showing he played a key role in the emergence of Peter Obi as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election.
In a statement shared via his official X handle on Sunday, Omokri, who served as a media aide under former President Goodluck Jonathan, published a screenshot of an email allegedly sent to him by Peter Obi on October 8, 2018 — just four days before Obi was officially announced as Atiku’s vice-presidential candidate on October 12, 2018.
“Please find attached an email sent to me by Peter Obi at 6:13 PM on Monday, October 8, 2018. Four days after this email was sent, Peter Obi was announced as Waziri Atiku Abubakar’s running mate,” Omokri stated.
He explained that the release of the email was in response to accusations from members of the Obidient Movement who had dismissed his earlier claims of involvement in the 2019 ticket selection as false.
“My ONLY motive in publishing this evidence is to establish that I did not lie,” Omokri said.
“I would not have considered publishing this email if a Peter Obi surrogate had not called me a liar on a popular podcast.”
He went further to challenge Obi to publicly deny the authenticity of the email, warning that failure to do so may prompt him to release more damaging information.
“If this email is fake or AI-generated, then I challenge Mr. Obi to deny it, and I will publish even more damning evidence, although it is not my desire to do so,” Omokri added.
As of press time, Peter Obi has not responded to the allegations.
