Residents of Ikorodu Division erupted in excitement on Saturday, September 20, as Hon. Babajimi Benson, member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, flagged off the long-awaited construction of the 7.5-kilometre Agbede–Ita Oluwo Road.

The road, first built nearly 40 years ago, links several densely populated communities from Agbede and Igbo Olomu in Lagos State to Ita Oluwo, a border town in Ogun State.

For decades, commuters and business owners have endured untold hardship navigating the dilapidated stretch, which had slowed economic activity and drawn repeated but unfulfilled promises of rehabilitation.

Community leaders and residents hailed Benson’s intervention, describing it as a turning point for an area long neglected by successive governments.

Many hoped the project would restore commercial vibrancy to the axis once completed.

Hon. Benson, who has earned the nickname “Julius Berger of Ikorodu” among residents for his series of road interventions across the constituency, assured that the project would be delivered to standard and on time.

The project is expected to boost inter-state trade, reduce travel time, and improve living conditions for thousands of residents along the corridor.

Traditional rulers, political leaders, and jubilant residents turned out in large numbers to witness the flag-off, which many described as the “end of a 40-year wait.”
