The Olubadan-In-Council has formally endorsed Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, as the next 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The endorsement took place on Monday at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, located within the Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Although Ladoja, a former governor of the state, was not present at the meeting, his nomination received unanimous support from the council.
Announcing the council’s decision, Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, stated that Ladoja’s name would be officially forwarded to Governor Seyi Makinde for confirmation and formal approval.
“The council is confident that Ladoja will bring a wealth of experience and wisdom to the throne. His track record as a former governor and his deep connection with the community make him an ideal candidate to lead Ibadanland into a new era,” Oba Ajibola said.
He emphasized the importance of unity and development, expressing optimism that Ladoja’s reign would foster reconciliation and modern progress in Ibadanland.
“Under his leadership, we anticipate a period of reconciliation and development for our people. We believe that Rashidi Ladoja will uphold the values and traditions of our ancestors while embracing modernity,” he added.
The endorsement has already sparked excitement across Ibadan, with many residents expressing hope that Ladoja’s ascension will bring renewed attention to issues of infrastructure, youth empowerment, and cultural preservation.
The announcement comes shortly after the conclusion of the 21-day mourning period for the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025, after a brief reign of one year.
Oba Olakulehin had succeeded Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan.
A formal public presentation and coronation ceremony for Rashidi Ladoja is expected to take place in the coming weeks, pending the governor’s official confirmation.
