Adeyinka Taufeeq Temitope isn’t the regular barber you come across in your street, he is a professional barber that can carve any design on a person’s hair. Interestingly, he learnt hair designs from the popular streaming site, YouTube.
The 20-year old from Ogbomosho, Oyo State, is currently a 100 level student studying Fine Arts. He started to learn barbing as a vocation to sponsor himself to school and help his not-well-to-do parents.
In his viral interview with BBC Pidgin, he shares his story. In the first two months as an apprentice, his boss didn’t allow him to touch the clipper due to the fear that he might ruin people’s hair.
Afterwards, he bought his own clipper to practise. When he got into school, he began to cut hair for his hostel mates; then he discovered that his work has improved.
Taufeeq doesn’t have a shop presently, and only does home service. He says that he is saving for a mobile barbershop; a bus to convey him from one state to another.
Though, people often stereotype against his work as “irresponsible” haircuts, Taufeeq however tells his critics that the kind of hairstyles he cuts are similar to those you can find on Paul Pogba, the Manchester United star, and other footballers. Just hairstyles and nothing else, same way women plait different hairstyles.
