The House of Representatives during plenary session on Tuesday asserted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission make available necessary records showing all seized assets, including cash, movable and immovable properties.
The resolution was made following the motion moved by Hon Babajimi Benson (Ikorodu, Lagos State, APC).
Hon Benson opined that since the Act that enacted the anti-graft agency permitted them to seize and hold on to proceeds of fraud obtained from erring government workers, it was important records of these seized assets are kept.
He stated that a proper record of such assets will assist the House in its oversight function in order to appropriate the assets.
The House later directed the House Committee on Financial Crimes to carry out a comprehensive but urgent audit of all assets seized by the agency in order to ascertain the conditions, values and make recommendations to the House on how to prevent further recurrence.
The Committee were given six weeks to carry out the oversight functions after which report will be submitted.
