President Tinubu appoints late Yar’Adua’s economic adviser as new Budget office boss

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr. Tanimu Yakubu, former Chief Economic Adviser to late President Umaru Yar’Adua, as the new Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, succeeding Mr. Ben Akabueze, whose tenure has expired.

This announcement was made in a statement on Thursday by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

Yakubu  was Chief Economic Adviser to President Umaru Yar’Adua from 2007 to 2010; Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria from 2003 to 2007, and Commissioner of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning in Katsina State from 1999 to 2003.
 
He  holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Wagner College, Staten Island, New York, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the same institution.

Before his new appointment, Yakubu was serving as Board Chairman for Katsina State Development Management Board (KTDMB).

President Tinubu expects the new Director-General to enhance the efficiency and quality of budget functions, promoting fiscal sustainability, transparency, and accountability in public finance management for national development.

President Tinubu also expressed gratitude to the outgoing Director-General, Mr. Ben Akabueze, for his service and wished him success in his future endeavors.
