President Bola Tinubu has officially announced the nomination of Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the next Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Dr. Cardoso is set to lead the nation’s central banking institution for an initial term of five years, pending confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
This nomination adheres to the provisions of Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which entrusts the authority to appoint the Governor and four Deputy Governors of the CBN to the President of Nigeria, with final confirmation resting with the Senate.
In addition to the nomination of Dr. Cardoso as Governor, President Tinubu has also approved the selection of four individuals to serve as Deputy Governors of the CBN, each for a term of five years, subject to Senate confirmation.
The nominees for the Deputy Governor positions are:
- Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro
- Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo
- Mr. Philip Ikeazor
- Dr. Bala M. Bello
These appointments align with President Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda, signaling his commitment to implementing vital reforms within the CBN.
