Renowned Nigerian Islamic singer, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, has passed away. The news of her death was shared on Tuesday morning by Islamic media outlet, Volume3 TV, via its official Facebook page.
Rukayat Gawat was celebrated for her captivating voice and her significant contributions to Islamic music, with her spiritually uplifting songs resonating deeply within the Muslim community.
In addition to her own fame, Rukayat was the daughter of the renowned broadcaster and musician, Alhaji Aremu Rasaq Gawat, whose mysterious disappearance over a decade ago remains unsolved.
Alhaji Gawat was well-known as the host of the popular E dide E ji saari Ramadan program on NTA Lagos Channel 10. His disappearance in 2012, when his vehicle was found abandoned on Eko Bridge.
The Gawat family’s enduring ordeal adds another layer of grief to the loss of Rukayat, whose death has already left a profound void in the Islamic music scene. Fans have taken to social media to mourn her passing and pay tribute to her contributions to religious music.
