Ibadan-based Islamic preacher and social media personality, Alhaja Kafilat Kaola, has been remanded in Oke-Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin over an alleged defamation case involving fellow Islamic cleric, Sheikh Akewugbagold.
The ruling follows allegations of defamation against Alhaji Taofeek Akewugbagold, the Wazeer Muslimeen of Oyo State and a respected Islamic cleric.
Details of the alleged defamatory statements remain undisclosed, but the case has reignited public interest in the longstanding tensions between the two figures.
Matters reportedly escalated after the videos were presented in court, prompting dramatic scenes that left many observers in shock.
Courtroom sources revealed that Alhaja Kaola openly disregarded court orders and was accused of insulting the judge through social media videos, a move that reportedly led to her remand.
An eyewitness recounted that the court remained calm and measured, but Kaola’s alleged contemptuous behaviour compounded her legal woes.
“She disrespected the judge, disregarded court orders, and came online to record videos abusing the judge,” said one witness.
“When her videos were played in court, she knelt down and began begging.”
Visibly emotional scenes followed her remand, as the once-bold cleric was seen crying and pleading for leniency.
The judge, however, stood firm, insisting on due process and respect for the judiciary.
Alhaja Kaola is to remain in custody until her next court appearance.
Social media has been flooded with reactions, with many noting the thin line between confidence and arrogance.
“There is a huge difference between boldness and arrogance,” another observer commented.
“This is a lesson on the dangers of living a fake life to impress others.”
