Ghanaian actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has won the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections.

This victory comes after he lost the same election in 2020.

Dumelo, running on the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), received 40,561 votes, defeating the incumbent Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 27,377 votes.

Dumelo first contested for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat in 2020, winning the NDC primaries but losing the general election to Lydia Alhassan.

Aside from his political career, Dumelo is a well-known actor, with notable appearances in The King is Mine, 4Play, Away Bus, Adams Apples series, and Love or Something Like That. He began acting in 1991 with his debut film Baby Thief.
