The family of an 18-year-old girl identified as Ojuade Monsura Yetunde has been thrown into mourning after she was reportedly hit by a police stray bullet in the Surelere area of Lagos State, on Friday.
BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the unfortunate incident happened around 11:30pm at the victim’s house situated at No. 53, Mogaji Street, Aguda, Surulere.
It was learnt that the victim, who recently celebrated her 18th birthday, was hit by a bullet discharged from a policeman when some anti-robbery officers stormed the area.
The unidentified police officer is said to be attached to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, Lagos State.
According to an eyewitness, Yetunde got hit while standing in front of her parents’ house. The bullet penetrated her two thighs, and she was immediately drenched in blood.
A close friend of the victim told BlackBox Nigeria that she (Yetunde) was rushed to a private hospital in the community but she was rejected.
She was later taken to Randle General Hospital, where she got first aid treatment. The hospital placed on oxygen and tried to stop bleeding but failed. They then advised that she sought orthopedic treatment.
Unfortunately, efforts to save her proved abortive as she gave up the ghost in the process, around 2am on Saturday. Her remains were said to have been deposited in the Military Hospital morgue, Yaba.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command is yet to confirm the incident as at time of filing this report.
