Police sacks officer who killed 18-year-old admission seeker in Lagos

Sergeant Samuel Philips, the police officer who shot dead Monsurat Ojuade, an 18-year-old girl, in Lagos, Samuel Philips, has been dismissed from the force.

This was contained in a statement by the Lagos Police Spokesman, Adekunle Ajisebutu on Friday.

It reads in part, “This is to inform the general public that Sgt Samuel Philipps who was tried for the shooting incident of 10th September, 2021 that led to the death of Monsurat Ojuade has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.”

“The suspect will be charged to court for murder”, the spokesman noted, recalling CP Hakeem Odumosu’s assurance of justice.

The decision to dismiss the embattled officer was made after an orderly room trial was instituted over the killing of 18-year-old Monsurat.

The late Ojuade, an admission seeker, passed away after she was hit by a bullet fired by Phillips in a street in Ijesha area of the State on September 11.

Philips and other operatives posted at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, were on an operation to arrest a robbery suspect.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, on September 13, paid a condolence visit to the deceased’s family, alongside members of the Lagos command management team and other senior officers.
