Police rescues 15 inmates chained in a prayer house, prophet and 10 others arrested

Detectives from Isheri, Osun police station yesterday stormed a prayer house at No 26 Alafia Street, Oriofe Ijegun Isheri where people are held against their will.

Upon arriving the scene, the detectives arrested one Prophet Sunday Joseph Ojo, 58, and 10 others and also rescued 15 persons who were chained on the legs.

Blackbox Nigeria learnt that some of the victims were said to have spent 5 years in the detention camp, while some of the victims were brought by their families to seek spiritual help from mental illness and other diseases.

Prophet Sunday, while speaking to pressmen, said he has been in the healing ministry since 1986 and he chained the victims in order to prevent escape.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana said investigations are ongoing as the police are working closely with other agencies of government to provide adequate medical attention and shelter to the victims.
