The Nigerian Police Force has pledged to discipline officers captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting motorists during a roadside operation along mile 2 to Badagry in Lagos state.

The Force Complaint Response Unit (CRU) disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, confirming that the policemen involved in the incident had been identified and would face appropriate sanctions.

The reaction followed widespread outrage on X (formerly Twitter), where a video showed some officers harassing young men under the pretext of conducting a search.

In its statement, the CRU assured the public that the matter was being taken seriously and would not go unpunished.

“Dear members of the public, the policemen in the viral video have been identified and appropriate disciplinary actions await them accordingly,” the statement read.

The unit also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the police in its efforts to eliminate misconduct and enforce accountability within the force.

“We seek your support and trust as we fight impunity to a standstill,” it added, using the hashtag #NoToImpunity.
