Police Arrests 52 Shi’ites Members With Improvised Petrol Bombs, Stones And Catapults
Fresh reports from the Federal Capital Territory has it that the FCT Police Command arrested 52 Shi’ites members after dispersing them with tear gas.
BlackBox Nigeria gathered from a Police source that members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (Shi’ites) attacked some members of the public, including some Police operatives.
The Police source added that items recovered from the arrested members were improvised petrol bombs, stones and catapults.
According to the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Anjuguri Manzah, the SHi’ites protesters who were calling for the release of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-ZakZaky, damaged some Police patrol vans, became unlawful in their protest and constituted serious security threat to the peace of the FCT.
He said, “Following the violent protest by the members of the El-Zakzaky Islamic Movement in Nigeria, the group who went on rampage and were attacking innocent citizens including police operatives, the FCT police command has arrested some members of the sect and recovered some bottles of improvised petrol bomb, stones and catapult used by members of the sect to attack police operatives and damage police operational vehicles.
“The 52 members of the El-Zakzaky group arrested by the police operatives during the violent protest that left some policemen with injuries, will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation,” he added.
