Police arraign lady who raised false kidnap alarm on Twitter

Ahmeerah Safiyanu, an Abuja-based lady, has been arraigned before the Zone 2 Magistrate Court in the FCT, for raising false kidnap alarm on popular microblogging platform, Twitter.

Safiyanu, who was arraigned before the court on Wednesday, pleaded guilty to the charges of false information to mislead public servants.

According to the police, she planned her own kidnap and was found in a hospital in Lagos.

The prosecution also said that after clinical examination, it was discovered she may have suffered mental breakdown.

On June 14, Safiyanu had tweeted that she and 17 others were abducted by armed men in police uniform in Abuja. Her SOS message immediately went viral and got the attention of the police.

Three days later, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command debunked the kidnap claim and said Safiyanu was already in police custody while investigations remained underway.

In an interesting turn of events, the lady, on June 20, issued a public apology to members of the public over the misleading tweet, saying she wasn’t kidnapped.

“Good day all, I would like to formally apologize to the general public, to the whole police department and my friends and family for misleading them with the below tweet, nothing of such happened and it was all just my delusions and negative thinking,” she wrote.

“I intentionally took myself out of our house, went to these locations, entered bushes and dehydrated and starved myself for four days just like that, there was no kidnapping, nothing at all, I truly apologize and please pray for me
I Need it.”
