Poem… Cheers to my beloved Jewel by Akeem Durojaiye
If life is a relay race,
I’d choose you over Peregrine falcon to fly, a million times.
I’d run by your side, not a cheetah.
I’d rather swim with you and not black marlin,
Because a race with you, is a race full of strength, hope, resilience and victory.
If life is a war front,
You are to me, what Artemisia I of Caria was to Persian People in the battle of salamis.
What Khawla bint Al Azwar was to early Muslims. A courageous, brave and empowering woman of virtue.
My ear is relishing the soothing rendition of you.
A rendition of royalty and splendours.
A rendition of honour and glamour uniquely crafted for queens and amazons.
Ayoola, I am jealous of you.
Yesterday, I saw a breeze singing your name, I couldn’t help but feel your inner breath in my throat.
A night before, I heard peacocks gossip your captivating beauty, I could not but salivate your taste on my lips.
A few minutes ago, angels were dancing to your reassuring heartbeats, I could not but feel your warmth and smell on my skin.
You’re not just an angel, you’re the harbinger of glad tidings.
It doesn’t matter if the sun fails to rise or the moon refuses to set, I am better with your succulent smiles and golden voice.
It doesn’t matter if everybody says, No. All I desire is your heart to always say, yes. I wouldn’t care if I was poor, in you lie riches and abundant wealth.
It doesn’t matter if I tumbled into the ditch many times, your trust and believe will always triumph over all setbacks.
You are the light that illuminates my path.
The Sun that dries my cry,
The soil that helps my crops grow.
The water that sustains my living.
Like the hair to the head,
The day and the night,
The sky and the earth,
Body and soul,
We were meant for each other,
Together, forever.
Happy birthday, Sweetheart.
I love you, Durojaiye Nuratulilah Ayoola (Nee:Otasanya)
