The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has reportedly choosen Ibrahim Kabiru Masari as his running mate for the 2023 elections.
According to a statement on Friday by his spokesperson, Tunde Rahman, the former Lagos State governor officially submitted his completed nomination forms to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Tinubu’s reported running mate hails from Katsina State and served as the APC National Welfare Secretary when Adams Oshiomole was the National Chairman.
Masari is also a serving board member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) located in Kuru, near Jos, the Plateau State capital.
Though the APC is yet to formally confirm the development, a chieftain of the ruling party, Kabiru Faskari said Masari is indeed Tinubu’s running mate.
“He qualifies as veteran in terms of politics because he joined politics from the onset. He began as a member of the PDP. He is young. He represents the youths and grounded in politics because he was even a national official of the APC and he is quite close with the presidential candidate,” Faskari disclosed in a interview with Channels TV.
However, there are strong indications that Masari’s name was submitted to INEC as a placeholder to beat the June 17 deadline, as the ruling party will look for a replacement later.
