The Labour Party is set to announce Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as the running mate to its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
This development comes hours after Doyin Okupe who was named as Obi’s ‘placeholder’ running mate, announced his withdrawal as the vice-presidential candidate of the party.
Okupe, a former presidential aide, made this known in a tweet on Thursday, saying his replacement will be unveiled soon.
“This afternoon, I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC,” he tweeted.
“A replacement will be announced by [the] national chairman of [the] party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success for the LP.”
According to reports, the Labour Party is expected to formally announce the choice of Baba-Ahmed as its vice-presidential candidate at its national headquarters in Abuja, on Friday.
The party’s National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, said the unveiling of Obi’s running mate was initially billed to hold on Thursday. However, the event was rescheduled for Friday.
