Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has denied reports that Atiku Abubakar offered him the Vice Presidential slot on a proposed single-term coalition ticket for the 2027 general elections.

According to sources, Atiku and Obi met earlier this year in the United Kingdom, where Atiku allegedly proposed a coalition and urged Obi to be his running mate.

However, Obi has clarified that he is only interested in forming a coalition against hunger, poverty, and the country’s poor healthcare and education systems.

“I am not desperate for any position,” Obi stated during a visit to the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kubwa in Abuja.

“The only coalition I am interested in is the one against hunger, poverty, and the bad state of healthcare and education in the country.”

Obi’s comments come amid growing speculation about potential coalitions among opposition leaders to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Despite coming third in the 2023 presidential election, Obi’s popularity remains strong, and many believe a coalition between him, Atiku, and other opposition parties could pose a significant challenge to Tinubu in the next election.

The former Anambra State governor also used the opportunity to highlight the need for quality education and the church’s role in filling the gap left by the government’s failures.

He made a financial donation to a school project in the diocese, emphasizing the importance of addressing the country’s educational challenges.

Obi’s stance on the alleged VP offer has sparked renewed interest in his political ambitions and potential alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
