The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi has come under fire for using the wrong picture in his congratulatory message to a Nigerian Professor, Saheed Aderinto.
On Sunday, Obi took to his Twitter page to hail Aderinto, a Professor of History and African Diaspora Studies at Florida International University, for winning the $300,000 Dan David Prize.
In the post, Obi described Prof. Aderinto as “the first and only Nigerian” to be awarded such a prestigious prize while expressing hopes that the recognition “will deepen our understanding of history and help sharpen our views for a better tomorrow.”
However, it appears that the former Anambra governor attached the wrong image to the post, sparking a flurry of reactions from Nigerians who pointed out the error.
A tweep, Ogbuefi Uwa Bunkoye NBA retweeted the post telling Obi to “stop misleading the public.”
Another Twitter user, @SHEsure7 shared the real picture of Prof Saheed and wrote, “Please this is Saheed Aderinto. The picture you posted isn’t him. He’s my friend and schoolmate.”
@topboychriss also blew hot as he wrote under the post, “This is Prof Saheed Aderinto. Delete this nonsense. Whoever is behind your page should be sacked.”
Similarly, a comment by @Hope Chukwudi sought to clear the air as he wrote that “the picture displayed is Prof Abideen Aderinto of the University of Ibadan, a lecturer in the department of Sociology.”
