Peace Must Be Restored In Benue State, Or Forget 2019 – Bafarawa Warns Buhari

Former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa on Friday spoke on the recent Benue killings as he urged President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to either restore peace in the State or forget 2019 General elections.

Alhaji Bafarawa made this known during his visit to the Government House, Makurdi where he went to commiserate with Governor Samuel Ortom of the recent massacre in the State by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The killings resulted to death of over 73 persons.

He said, “Why would there be an election in 2019 when there is no peace? The most important thing you can bring to a society is peace. When you bring peace to them, you have brought life and can then talk about the election.”

Bafarawa added that it was the duty of President Buhari to put serious efforts and involve all stakeholders to solve the menace. He also made a cash donation of N10m to support the family of the victims of the January 1st killings.

Governor Ortom in his remarks regarded the former Governor for his solidarity as he disclosed that the herdsmen and farmers crisis remains a national problem, which he said needed a national solution by government at all levels in the country.
